Indications
Citofer is used for the following medical conditions:
- Control of Serum Phosphorus: In adult patients with chronic kidney disease on dialysis.
- Iron Deficiency Anemia: For adult patients with chronic kidney disease who are not on dialysis.
Use Citofer as prescribed by a registered healthcare professional.
Pharmacology
Citofer contains ferric citrate, which binds dietary phosphate in the gastrointestinal tract. This forms an insoluble ferric phosphate compound that is excreted through the stool, reducing phosphate absorption and lowering serum phosphate levels. Additionally, ferric iron is converted to ferrous iron, absorbed, and incorporated into hemoglobin, supporting iron levels in the body.
Dosage & Administration

- Dose can be adjusted by 1-2 tablets as required, with a maximum of 12 tablets per day.
For Iron Deficiency Anemia in Chronic Kidney Disease (Not on Dialysis):
- Starting dose: 1 tablet, three times daily with meals.
- Dose may be adjusted as needed to achieve the hemoglobin target, with a maximum of 12 tablets per day.
