Indications
Acifix Gastro-resistant Tablets are designed to address various gastrointestinal conditions, including:
- Active duodenal ulcers
- Active benign gastric ulcers
- Symptomatic erosive or ulcerative gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
- Long-term management of GERD (GERD Maintenance)
- Symptomatic treatment for moderate to severe GERD
- Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome
- Eradication of Helicobacter pylori in peptic ulcer disease, in conjunction with appropriate antibacterial treatments
Pharmacology
Acifix contains Rabeprazole, a potent proton-pump inhibitor. Rabeprazole effectively reduces gastric acid secretion by blocking the H+/K+-ATPase enzyme on the gastric parietal cell surface, which is crucial for acid production.
Dosage
- Active Duodenal and Benign Gastric Ulcers: 20 mg once daily in the morning. Most patients see healing within four weeks for duodenal ulcers and six weeks for gastric ulcers. Extended treatment may be necessary for some patients.
- Erosive or Ulcerative GERD: 20 mg once daily for four to eight weeks.
- GERD Maintenance: 20 mg or 10 mg once daily, adjusted based on patient response.
- Severe Symptomatic GERD: 10 mg once daily, with an option to adjust dosage if symptoms persist. Once controlled, symptoms can be managed with on-demand dosing.
- Pediatric GERD Treatment (Ages 1-11):
- <15 kg: 5 mg once daily for 12 weeks, with a potential increase to 10 mg if needed.
- ≥15 kg: 10 mg once daily for 12 weeks.
- Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome: Start with 60 mg once daily, potentially increasing to 120 mg/day based on patient needs. Higher doses may require split dosing.
- Helicobacter pylori Eradication: Combine 20 mg of Rabeprazole twice daily with 500 mg of clarithromycin and 1 g of amoxicillin twice daily for 7 days.
Administration
Take Acifix tablets in the morning before meals. Swallow tablets whole—do not chew or crush. Adhering to this regimen improves treatment compliance.
Interactions
Acifix may interact with pH-dependent compounds. Co-administration with ketoconazole or itraconazole may reduce antifungal levels, and it should not be used with atazanavir due to pH-dependence. No interaction with liquid antacids was observed.

Common side effects include headache, diarrhea, abdominal pain, nausea, constipation, dry mouth, appetite changes, muscle pain, drowsiness, and dizziness. Serious effects are rare but may include kidney issues, liver damage, and bone fractures.
