Indications
Zocort cream, with its potent anti-inflammatory, immunosuppressant, and antimitotic properties, is indicated for the treatment of various skin conditions. It is commonly prescribed for:
- Primary irritant dermatitis
- Allergic contact dermatitis
- Various types of eczema: atopic, infantile, discoid, and stasis
- Seborrheic dermatitis
- Lichen simplex and pruritus ani
- Flexural psoriasis
- Skin irritations, itching, and rashes (such as those from insect bites, minor thermal burns, and sunburn)
Note: Always use Zocort under the guidance of a registered healthcare professional.
Pharmacology
Zocort contains hydrocortisone acetate, a corticosteroid that works by binding to glucocorticoid receptors in cells. This binding triggers the formation of a receptor-ligand complex that enters the cell nucleus and promotes the expression of genes responsible for reducing inflammation. Hydrocortisone achieves its anti-inflammatory effects by inhibiting phospholipase A2 and reducing the production of prostaglandins and leukotrienes, two primary mediators of inflammation. Additionally, it suppresses immune responses, offering relief from conditions related to excessive immune activity.
Dosage & Administration
- Apply a small amount of Zocort 1% cream to the affected skin area 2-3 times daily.
- For optimal results, use under the supervision of a healthcare provider.
Important: Always consult a healthcare professional before beginning any treatment.
Contraindications
Zocort should not be used in the following cases:
- Active infections (bacterial, viral, or fungal)
- Skin ulcers

Side Effects
Zocort is generally well-tolerated, but some individuals may experience hypersensitivity reactions. If any unusual irritation or reaction occurs, discontinue use and consult a doctor immediately.
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Zocort should only be used during pregnancy if the potential benefits outweigh the risks, as there is limited safety data available.
- It is unlikely that hydrocortisone in topical forms will significantly enter breast milk, but consult your doctor if breastfeeding.
Precautions & Warnings
- Prolonged use, especially in infants and children, may lead to adrenal suppression.
- Avoid excessive use on the face, as long-term application can have undesirable effects.
Overdose Effects
Acute overdose is rare, but chronic misuse or overuse may lead to symptoms of hypercorticism. If this occurs, discontinue use immediately and seek medical advice.
