Description

Indications

Torsid serves as a remedy for addressing edema linked with congestive heart failure, renal, or hepatic ailments. Additionally, Torsid is prescribed for managing hypertension, either individually or alongside other antihypertensive medications.

Pharmacology

Torsemide operates within the thick ascending portion of the loop of Hen

le, inhibiting the Na+/K+/2Cl^- carrier system. This action boosts the urinary excretion of sodium, chloride, and water without significantly affecting glomerular filtration rate, renal plasma flow, or acid-base equilibrium.

Dosage & Administration

  • For heart failure-related edema: Initiate with Torsemide 10 mg or 20 mg once daily, adjusting upwards if necessary.
  • For edema due to chronic renal failure: Commence with Torsemide 20 mg once daily, adjusting as needed.
  • For hepatic cirrhosis-associated edema: Begin with Torsemide 5 mg or 10 mg once daily, in combination with an aldosterone antagonist or potassium-sparing diuretic, adjusting the dosage accordingly.
  • For hypertension: Start with 5 mg once daily, increasing to 10 mg if required. Additional antihypertensive agents may be added if needed.

Interaction

Care should be taken when administering Torsid concurrently with high doses of salicylates, cholestyramine, ACE inhibitors, or Angiotensin receptor blockers due to potential interactions.

Contraindications
