Composition
Each gm of muscle rub contains L-Menthol: 25.40 mg, D-camphor: 14.30 mg, Methyl Salicylate: 4.20 mg, Oleoresin Capsicum: 0.05 mg.
Description
Capsicum species are utilized medicinally, with Capsicum oleoresin extracted through the percolation method. Methyl salicylate, menthol, and camphor are derived from plants such as wintergreen, mint, peppermint, eucalyptus, and cedar.
Pharmacology
Capsicum stimulates the circulatory system, interferes with phospholipase A2 activation, and depletes substance P, mediating pain impulses. Methyl salicylate blocks voltage-operated sodium channels, while menthol binds TRPM-8 receptors, inducing a sensation of cold. Camphor acts as a counter irritant, numbing nerve endings to inhibit pain transmission.
