Pharmacology
- Topical urea exhibits bacteriostatic, bactericidal, fungistatic, proteolytic, and hygroscopic properties, with mild local anesthetic effects.
- Its therapeutic effects primarily stem from its hygroscopic nature, enhancing water retention in the skin’s outer layer.
- Clinical studies have demonstrated a doubling of water holding capacity in ichthyotic scale after three weeks of treatment with 10% urea cream.
Dosage & Administration
- Apply Urea 10% cream topically twice daily on well-washed and dried affected areas, with occlusive dressings if necessary.
- Safe for use in all age groups, including children.
