Description

Derived from the European blueberry, Ocubil offers a standardized extract of bilberry, popularized in the United States as dietary supplements. It comprises the whole, dried, ripe, black or bluish-black fruit of Vaccinium myrtillus L. The plant, common to Central and Northern Europe, Asia, and North America, contains beneficial compounds like tannins, anthocyanins, and flavonoid glycosides.

Pharmacology

Bilberry extract, rich in anthocyanins, addresses various eye conditions including Retinopathy, Cataracts, Macular degeneration, Retinitis pigmentosa, and Hemorrhagic retinopathy. Its mechanisms of action involve inhibiting enzymatic collagen cleavage, conferring retinal protection, reducing microvascular impairments, inhibiting platelet aggregation, and improving capillary perfusion.

Dosage & Administration

Take one 160 mg capsule 2-3 times daily or as directed by a physician.

Interaction

No interactions known, though very high doses may interact with warfarin or other antiplatelet drugs.
