Description
Neosten is a broad-spectrum antifungal treatment effective against various dermatophytes, yeasts, moulds, and some bacteria. It works by disrupting fungal cell membranes, inhibiting ergosterol synthesis, and causing membrane damage at higher concentrations. This dual action helps in combating diverse fungal infections and some bacterial pathogens.
Pharmacology
Clotrimazole, a key ingredient in Neosten, works by damaging the fungal cell membrane’s permeability. It inhibits ergosterol biosynthesis, a crucial component of fungal cell membranes, leading to cell growth inhibition. Besides, Clotrimazole affects calcium metabolism and ion channels, which contribute to its broad pharmacological profile.
Dosage & Administration
- Clotrimazole Cream: Apply a thin layer 2-3 times daily to affected areas. A small amount typically suffices. Treatment duration varies by condition:

- Erythrasma and Pityriasis Versicolor: Approximately 3 weeks
- Continue treatment for 2 weeks after symptoms resolve to prevent relapse. Ensure feet are dry before application.
