Indications
Deslorin is prescribed to alleviate symptoms associated with seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis. These symptoms include sneezing, nasal discharge, nasal itching, congestion, stuffiness, ocular itching, tearing, redness, palate itching, and coughing. Additionally, Deslorin provides relief from chronic idiopathic urticaria, such as reducing itching and minimizing the size and number of hives.

Pharmacology
Desloratadine, the primary active metabolite of Loratadine, is a long-acting, non-sedating tricyclic histamine antagonist with selective H1-receptor blocking activity. It also helps inhibit histamine release from human mast cells.
Dosage & Administration
Pediatric Drops
- 6–11 months: 2 ml once daily
- 1–2 years: 2.5 ml once daily
Syrup
- 6–11 months: 2 ml once daily
- 1–5 years: 2.5 ml once daily
- 6–11 years: 5 ml once daily
- Adults and children ≥12 years: 10 ml once daily
Tablet
- Adults and children ≥12 years: 1 tablet daily

Drug Interactions
No significant or clinically relevant drug interactions have been reported.
Contraindications
Desloratadine should not be used by patients with known hypersensitivity to the drug, its ingredients, or Loratadine.
Side Effects
Uncommon side effects may include headache, nausea, fatigue, dizziness, sore throat, indigestion, and muscle pain.
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Pregnancy: Classified under Category C. The safety of Desloratadine during pregnancy is not well established. Use during pregnancy only if absolutely necessary.
- Lactation: Since Desloratadine passes into breast milk, consult a healthcare provider to determine whether to discontinue nursing or stop the medication.
Precautions & Warnings
- For adult patients with liver or kidney impairments, the recommended starting dose is 5 mg every other day.
- Exercise caution in patients with a personal or family history of seizures.
Special Populations
Desloratadine is safe for use in children and adolescents, as recommended by a healthcare professional.
Overdose Effects
No clinically significant adverse effects have been reported in cases of overdose.
