Indications
Cortan Eye Drops are designed to treat inflammation in the palpebral and bulbar conjunctiva, cornea, and anterior segment of the eye that responds to steroids.
- Note: Always use this medication as directed by a registered healthcare professional.
Pharmacology
Prednisolone works by reducing inflammation through the inhibition of polymorphonuclear leukocyte migration and by reversing increased capillary permeability. It also suppresses immune responses by lowering the activity and production of lymphocytes and eosinophils.
Dosage & Administration
Adults: Instill one drop into the conjunctival sac two to four times daily. For the first 24 to 48 hours, the frequency can be increased if necessary. Ensure to complete the entire treatment course without prematurely discontinuing therapy.
Pediatric Use: The safety and efficacy of this medication in children have not been established.
- Note: Always use this medication as directed by a registered healthcare professional.

Contraindications
Cortan is contraindicated for use in patients with viral infections of the cornea or conjunctiva, as well as those with known hypersensitivity to any components of this formulation or other corticosteroids.
Side Effects
Possible side effects include elevated intraocular pressure (IOP), which may lead to glaucoma, occasional optic nerve damage, posterior subcapsular cataract formation, and delayed wound healing. Long-term use may also increase the risk of fungal and viral infections of the cornea.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Cortan Eye Drops are classified as pregnancy category C, indicating that they should only be used during pregnancy if absolutely necessary. It is not established whether topical corticosteroids lead to significant systemic absorption to produce detectable levels in breast milk. Caution is advised when administering this medication to nursing mothers.
Precautions & Warnings
Before use, shake the bottle thoroughly. Prolonged corticosteroid use may cause optic nerve damage and vision issues. If Cortan is used over an extended period, regular monitoring of intraocular pressure is recommended.
