Biotin, also known as vitamin H, is an essential nutrient crucial for various physiological processes such as fatty acid synthesis, amino acid breakdown, and gluconeogenesis. It serves as a coenzyme in the carboxylation of pyruvate and acetyl-CoA, playing a significant role in the growth and maintenance of skin, hair, and nails. Biotin deficiency can lead to hair loss, dermatitis, and other systemic symptoms. It’s widely prescribed to address different types of hair loss.
Dosage & Administration
The dosage of biotin varies depending on age and health condition:
- For adults: Generally 1-3 tablets per day, as per physician’s advice.
- For children: In cases of biotin deficiency, typically occurring between 1 week and 2 years of age, 5-10 tablets daily, crushed and mixed with water or fruit juice, as directed by the physician.
Recommended dietary allowance varies by age group:
