Indications
Aristocal D is prescribed for managing conditions such as osteoporosis, osteomalacia, rickets, tetany, and parathyroid disorders. It is also beneficial for ensuring adequate calcium intake during pregnancy and lactation, supporting bone and tooth development, and complementing anti-seizure medications. Additionally, it serves as a routine supplement and phosphate binder in chronic renal failure.
Pharmacology
Aristocal D combines Calcium Carbonate and Vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol). Calcium is essential for bone formation and maintenance, while Vitamin D3 enhances the absorption and reabsorption of calcium, promoting bone health. Clinical evidence indicates that the combination of Calcium and Vitamin D3 supports bone growth, prevents osteoporosis, and reduces fracture risk.
Dosage & Administration
- Calcium 500 mg and Vitamin D3 200 IU Tablets: Take 2 tablets daily or 1 tablet twice daily, preferably with or just after a meal for optimal absorption.
- Calcium 500 mg and Vitamin D3 400 IU Tablets: Take 1 tablet twice daily, ideally with or after meals.
Use as directed by your physician.
Interaction
Aristocal D may interact with calcium, aluminum, or magnesium-containing antacids, other calcium supplements, calcitriol, and additional Vitamin D3 supplements. Caution is advised when used with digoxin, tetracycline, doxycycline, minocycline, or oxytetracycline.
Contraindications
Avoid use in cases of hypercalcemia, hyperthyroidism, renal calculi, nephrolithiasis, and Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome.
Side Effects
Aristocal D is generally well-tolerated. Potential side effects include nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps, dry mouth, increased thirst, and urination. Constipation may also occur.
