Indications
Amlex is primarily used to treat aphthous ulcers (canker sores) by promoting faster healing and reducing discomfort.
Pharmacology
The exact mechanism by which Amlexanox accelerates the healing of aphthous ulcers remains unclear. However, research indicates that it inhibits the release of inflammatory mediators, such as histamine and leukotrienes, from immune cells, which helps in reducing inflammation. Amlexanox also demonstrates anti-allergic and anti-inflammatory properties in animal studies. After oral administration, it reaches peak serum levels in about 2.4 hours, with a half-life of 3.5 hours.
Dosage & Administration
- Apply Amlex oral paste promptly after symptoms of an aphthous ulcer appear.
- Use it four times a day, preferably after meals and before bedtime.
- Dry the ulcer area gently with a clean cloth, apply the paste with a moistened fingertip, and repeat if necessary.
- Continue use until the ulcer heals. If there is no significant healing or pain relief after 10 days, consult your physician.
Always follow the advice of a registered healthcare provider.
