Pharmacology
Clobetasol Propionate is a potent topical corticosteroid with powerful anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, and vasoconstrictive effects. It works by:
- Reducing the activity of mast cells and eosinophils.
- Suppressing the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines.
- Inhibiting arachidonic acid metabolism, which reduces the synthesis of key inflammatory mediators (prostaglandins and leukotrienes).
It also has immunosuppressive properties, reducing immune system function by affecting lymphocytes and immunoglobulins.
Dosage & Administration
- Cream/Ointment: Apply a thin layer to the affected areas twice daily. The maximum weekly dose should not exceed 50 gm/week. For children, limit treatment to 5 days.
- Spray: Apply to the affected scalp areas 1-2 times daily. The total dosage should not exceed 50 ml per week.
- Shampoo: Apply to a dry scalp, leave for 15 minutes before rinsing. Do not exceed 50 g per week, and limit use to 4 weeks.
Always follow the prescribed guidelines from your healthcare provider.
