Indications
Xenogrow is designed for the management of androgenic alopecia in both men and women. It helps stabilize hair loss associated with androgenic alopecia and can also be effective for individuals experiencing alopecia areata.
Please use this medication as directed by a registered healthcare professional.
Pharmacology
Minoxidil promotes hair growth by enhancing the delivery of oxygen, blood, and nutrients to hair follicles. It achieves this by dilating blood vessels and inhibiting androgen hormones that can negatively impact hair follicles.
When applied topically, approximately 1.4% of the total dosage is absorbed from healthy, intact scalp tissue. The absorption of topical Minoxidil can increase with higher doses, more frequent applications, or by reducing the barrier function of the skin’s outer layer. The levels of Minoxidil in the bloodstream and any resulting systemic effects are largely influenced by its absorption through the skin. Once topical treatment is stopped, about 95% of the absorbed Minoxidil is eliminated from the system within four days, with most of the drug and its metabolites excreted through urine.
Dosage & Administration
Minoxidil topical solution is intended for external use only. For optimal results, apply the solution on a clean and dry scalp. Use 1 ml (7 sprays) of the solution twice daily, ideally every 12 hours, starting from the center of the affected area and spreading it evenly to cover the entire area. The total daily dose should not exceed 2 ml.
For best outcomes, allow the solution to remain on the scalp for at least 4 hours before washing. If applying at night, ensure the solution is applied 2-4 hours before bedtime to allow for proper drying. Do not massage the solution into the scalp; apply it gently. Avoid using a hair dryer to hasten drying, as it may reduce effectiveness. Minoxidil should not be mixed with any hair oils, and it should not be used more than twice a day or applied to other areas of the body to prevent potential side effects or unwanted hair growth. Increased frequency or extended application duration does not enhance hair growth. If a dose is missed, continue with the next scheduled application.
Always wash hands immediately after applying Minoxidil with fingers. Clinical experience suggests that twice-daily applications for a minimum of four months may be necessary to see signs of hair growth. For effective prevention of hair loss, Minoxidil should be used for at least 45 days. Depending on the severity of hair loss or the type of baldness, select the appropriate strength of Minoxidil topical solution.

Interactions
Xenogrow topical solution should not be combined with other topical agents known to modify the skin barrier, such as tretinoin or dithranol, as this may enhance Xenogrow absorption. Although clinical evidence is lacking, there is a theoretical risk that absorbed Xenogrow could amplify the hypotensive effects caused by peripheral vasodilators.
Contraindications
Do not use Xenogrow if you have:
- Cardiac issues
- Are under 18 years old
- Are using occlusive dressings or other scalp medications
- Have a red, inflamed, infected, or irritated scalp (including conditions like psoriasis or sunburn)
Side Effects
Common side effects observed during clinical trials with Xenogrow topical solution included minor skin reactions. Conditions such as dermatitis or hypertrichosis may occur in approximately 0.1-5% of users.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Minoxidil topical solution is contraindicated during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Precautions & Warnings
Xenogrow may cause scalp irritation. If irritation persists or worsens, discontinue use immediately.
Overdose Effects
Using higher-than-recommended doses or applying the solution over large body areas may increase systemic absorption of Xenogrow. However, there are no reported cases of overdose from topical use.
Symptoms of overdose may include cardiovascular effects related to sodium and water retention, along with tachycardia. Manage fluid retention with appropriate diuretics, and treat significant tachycardia with a beta-adrenergic blocker.
Therapeutic Class
Other scalp preparations.
