Indications
Acyclovir & Hydrocortisone Cream is specifically formulated to provide early treatment for recurrent herpes labialis (cold sores). It aims to reduce the likelihood of ulcerative cold sores and shorten lesion healing time in both adults and children aged 6 years and older.
Pharmacology
Acyclovir, a synthetic purine nucleoside analogue, exhibits inhibitory activity against Herpes simplex viruses types 1 and 2 (HSV-1 and HSV-2). It achieves this through selective inhibition of the viral enzyme thymidine kinase (TK), which converts Acyclovir into its active form. Hydrocortisone, on the other hand, is a glucocorticoid with potent anti-inflammatory effects, effectively suppressing the clinical manifestations of inflammation seen in various disorders.
Dosage & Administration
For optimal efficacy, the cream should be applied topically five times a day for a duration of five days. Early initiation of therapy upon the first signs and symptoms is recommended to maximize effectiveness.

Side Effects
Common adverse reactions may include local skin reactions such as dryness, flaking, burning, tingling, erythema, and pigmentation changes. Additionally, application site reactions indicative of inflammation may occur.

Pregnancy Category B While there are no adequate and well-controlled studies of systemic Acyclovir in pregnant women, topical administration of Acyclovir and Hydrocortisone results in minimal systemic exposure. Caution should be exercised during lactation due to potential excretion in breast milk.
Precautions & Warnings
Avoid using Acyclovir & Hydrocortisone Cream in sensitive areas such as the eyes, mouth, nose, or genitals. Medical advice should be sought if cold sores fail to heal within two weeks of treatment initiation.
Use in Special Populations
The safety and efficacy of Acyclovir & Hydrocortisone Cream in pediatric subjects under 6 years of age have not been established.
