Indications:
Ultrafen Plus is prescribed for managing osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis symptoms in patients at high risk of NSAID-induced ulcers.
Pharmacology:
Ultrafen Plus combines Diclofenac Sodium, an NSAID with analgesic properties, and Misoprostol, a gastrointestinal mucosal protective agent. This combination helps prevent ulcer formation by maintaining mucosal integrity.
Dosage & Administration:
For osteoarthritis, the recommended dose is Diclofenac Sodium 50 mg & Misoprostol 200 µg three times daily. Adjustments are available for patient tolerance. For rheumatoid arthritis, the recommended dose is Diclofenac Sodium 50 mg & Misoprostol 200 µg three to four times daily.
Interaction:
Avoid concurrent use with aspirin, digoxin, antihypertensives, warfarin, oral hypoglycaemics, antacids, and diuretics due to potential interactions.
Contraindications:
Do not use in patients with hypersensitivity to Diclofenac, Misoprostol, or other prostaglandins, or in those with asthma or urticaria after taking aspirin or NSAIDs.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include abdominal pain, diarrhea, and gastrointestinal symptoms. Monitor closely for severe diarrhea.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Avoid use during pregnancy due to Misoprostol’s abortifacient properties. Not recommended for nursing mothers due to Diclofenac Sodium excretion in milk.
Precautions & Warnings:
Use with caution in patients with inflammatory bowel disease or dehydration risk. Monitor closely in special populations such as the elderly.
Storage Conditions:
Store Ultrafen Plus below 25º C in a cool, dry place and protect from light.
