Indications
Turbocef is utilized for treating infections caused by susceptible bacteria, including:
- Pharyngitis/Tonsillitis: Effective against Streptococcus pyogenes.
- Acute Bacterial Otitis Media: Targets Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, Moraxella catarrhalis (including beta-lactamase strains), and Streptococcus pyogenes.
- Acute Bacterial Maxillary Sinusitis: Treats infections from Streptococcus pneumoniae and Haemophilus influenzae (non-beta-lactamase strains).
- Lower Respiratory Tract Infections: Addresses pneumonia and other infections caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae (including beta-lactamase strains), Klebsiella spp., Staphylococcus aureus, and E. coli.
- Acute Bacterial Exacerbation of Chronic Bronchitis & Secondary Infections: Targets Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae (beta-lactamase negative strains), and Haemophilus parainfluenzae (beta-lactamase negative strains).
- Skin and Skin-Structure Infections: Effective against Staphylococcus aureus (including beta-lactamase strains) and Streptococcus pyogenes.
- Urinary Tract Infections: Treats E. coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae.
- Bone and Joint Infections: Targets Staphylococcus aureus (penicillinase and non-penicillinase strains).
- Gonorrhoea: Effective against Neisseria gonorrhoeae (both penicillinase and non-penicillinase strains).
- Early Lyme Disease: Treats erythema migrans caused by Borrelia burgdorferi.
Pharmacology
Turbocef, containing cefuroxime, is a broad-spectrum antibiotic with bactericidal properties against many common pathogens, including those resistant to ampicillin and amoxicillin. Cefuroxime remains effective against β-lactamase-producing strains due to its stability.
