Indications

Trumega serves as a supplementary treatment to lower extremely high triglyceride levels (>500mg/dl) in adult patients and as an additional therapy for secondary prevention in those who have experienced a heart attack within the last 3 months. It also aids in reducing joint inflammation linked with mild arthritis, managing mood disorders & impulse control, and addressing age-related macular degeneration.

Composition

Each Soft Gelatin Capsule contains Omega-3-Acid Ethyl Esters BP 1000 mg, comprising:

• Eicosapentaenoic Acid BP 80 mg
• Docosahexaenoic Acid BP 120 mg

Pharmacology

Omega-3-acid ethyl esters help lower triglyceride production by the liver through mechanisms that include inhibiting triglyceride synthesis and enhancing fatty acid metabolism. Additionally, they promote triglyceride clearance and reduce very low-density lipoprotein cholesterol production.

Dosage & Administration

• For hypertriglyceridemia: A single dose of 4 capsules (4 gm) or 2 capsules (2 gm) twice daily.
• For post-myocardial infarction patients: 1 capsule (1 gm) daily with food.
• For joint inflammation related to mild arthritis: 2.7 gm daily.
• For mood disorders & impulse control and age-related macular degeneration: 1 capsule (1 gm) per day, or as directed by a registered physician.

Interaction

Trumega-acid ethyl esters can be administered alongside warfarin without causing hemorrhagic complications. However, prothrombin time should be monitored during concurrent use or discontinuation of treatment.
