Pharmacology

Undenatured Type II collagen is a natural protein found in cartilage, bones, and other connective tissues. Composed of three amino acid chains—glycine, proline, and hydroxyproline—this collagen forms a triple helix structure. The undenatured type II collagen used here is sourced from chicken sternum cartilage, processed through a patented low-temperature, non-enzymatic method to preserve its natural triple helix configuration and biological properties.

Boswellia serrata gum resin, the key ingredient in this product, contains Boswellic acids, with β-boswellic acids as the main triterpenic acid, along with 11-keto-β-boswellic acids and their acetates.

Undenatured type II collagen acts as an antigen, prompting an autoimmune response that stimulates the production of anti-inflammatory cytokines. This collagen has a unique mechanism of action where its epitopes bind to Peyer’s patches (lymphoid tissue) in the small intestine, triggering an oral tolerization process. This process leads to the activation of collagen-specific regulatory T-cells, which travel to the joints and prevent the release of T-cells.

By inhibiting T-cell release, collagenase enzymes, responsible for cartilage breakdown, are not secreted. This helps in reducing inflammation, halting cartilage erosion, and supporting cartilage regeneration. Additionally, undenatured type II collagen promotes improved joint mobility, flexibility, and function, enhancing knee extension by up to 10% for better range of motion. It also helps relieve joint pain caused by intense physical activity.

The chicken collagen in this supplement also contains chondroitin and glucosamine, vital compounds for cartilage repair. The resin of Boswellia serrata further contributes by containing pentacyclic triterpenic acids that inhibit pro-inflammatory enzymes.
