Composition
Each film-coated MUPS tablet contains Omeprazole enteric-coated micro pellets equivalent to 20 mg of Omeprazole.
Pharmacology
MUPS, short for Multiple-Unit Pellet System, represents a cutting-edge technology in pharmaceutical formulation. By compacting modified-release coated multiparticulates into tablets, MUPS combines the advantages of both tablets and pellet-filled capsules into a single dosage form.
Clinical Advantages
Compared to conventional modified-release omeprazole tablets and pellet-filled omeprazole capsules, Omeprazole MUPS tablets offer several clinical benefits:
- Enhanced bioavailability.
- Uniform emptying of micro pellets into the small intestine, facilitating rapid dissolution and drug release.
- Reduced risk of dose dumping.
- Combination of fast-acting and sustained action.
- Uniform drug release for once-daily dosing.
- Minimized esophageal residence time, particularly advantageous for GERD treatment.
- Reduced fluctuations in plasma drug concentration.
Dosage
For adults and children over 2 years old, the recommended dosages vary depending on the condition being treated. It’s essential to adhere to the prescribed regimen under medical supervision.
Administration
Seclo MUPS tablets should be taken either before or after meals. They should be swallowed whole with water, without chewing or crushing. Alternatively, if swallowing is difficult, the tablet can be dispersed in water and consumed within 30 minutes.
Interaction
Given its metabolism through CYP2C19, potential interactions with other CYP2C19-metabolized medicines should be considered when initiating or discontinuing Seclo MUPS treatment.
Contraindications
Seclo MUPS tablets are contraindicated in individuals with a known hypersensitivity to any of the formulation components.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Omeprazole, the active ingredient in Seclo MUPS, is generally considered safe during pregnancy and lactation. However, caution should be exercised, and medical advice sought before use.
