Indications
Scabex cream is indicated for the treatment of scabies and crab lice infestations (Pediculosis). It is recommended that all family members be treated together if one member is infected.
Pharmacology
Permethrin cream, the active ingredient in Scabex, disrupts the nerve cell membrane of pests like Sarcoptes Scabiei, causing paralysis and death.
Dosage
Adults and children over 12 years should use a full tube. Dosages for children vary by age, with younger children using smaller amounts.
Administration
Before application, ensure the skin is clean, cool, and dry. Apply the cream to the entire body, including between fingers and toes, under nails, and on the soles of feet. Leave on for at least 8 hours before washing off.
Interaction
Treatment with corticosteroids for eczema-like reactions should be avoided before using Scabex to prevent exacerbating the scabies infestation.
Contraindications
Permethrin is contraindicated in individuals with known hypersensitivity to pyrethroids or permethrin.
Side Effects
Skin discomfort such as burning, stinging, or tingling may occur after application. Other transient symptoms may include erythema, edema, rash, and pruritus.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Use during pregnancy should follow medical advice. It is unknown if permethrin is excreted in human milk, so caution is advised during breastfeeding.
Precautions & Warnings
Scabies infestation symptoms may temporarily worsen after treatment. Patients should avoid eye contact, and immediate flushing with water is recommended if contact occurs.
Therapeutic Class
Scabex belongs to the therapeutic class of parasiticidal preparations.
Storage Conditions
Store in a cool, dry place away from light and keep out of the reach of children.
