Indications
Retabac is recommended for adults and pediatric patients aged 9 months and above for treating impetigo topically. Impetigo should not exceed 100 cm² in total area for adults or 2% of total body surface area for pediatric patients aged 9 months and older. It targets infections caused by Staphylococcus aureus (only methicillin-susceptible strains) or Streptococcus pyogenes. Its safety hasn’t been confirmed for patients under 9 months old. To prevent the development of drug-resistant bacteria and maintain Retabac’s effectiveness, it should only be used to treat or prevent infections caused by susceptible bacteria.
Pharmacology
Retapamulin operates by selectively inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis. It interacts at a site on the 50S subunit of the bacterial ribosome differently from other antibiotics. By binding to this site, it inhibits peptidyl transfer, blocks P-site interactions, and disrupts the normal formation of active 50S ribosomal subunits. Retapamulin is bacteriostatic against Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes at the Retapamulin in vitro minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) for these organisms.
Dosage & Administration
Apply a thin layer of Topibac to the affected area twice daily for 5 days. The application area can be covered with a sterile bandage or gauze dressing if desired.

The concurrent application of Retabac and other topical products to the same skin area hasn’t been studied for its effects.
