Description

Indicated for various conditions such as skin and soft tissue infections, respiratory tract infections, osteomyelitis, enteritis, endocarditis, urinary tract infection, meningitis, septicaemia caused by Phylopen-sensitive organisms, and as prophylaxis during major surgical procedures.

Pharmacology

Flucloxacillin, an isoxazolyl penicillin, inhibits bacterial cell wall formation, particularly against penicillinase-producing staphylococci. Acts as a bactericidal antibiotic by interfering with peptidoglycan synthesis, leading to bacterial cell wall weakening and rupture.

Dosage

Oral administration: Adults typically take 250 mg four times daily, with dosages doubled in severe infections. Children’s doses vary by age. Parenteral administration: Intramuscular or intravenous injections are administered four times daily, with doses adjusted based on severity.
