Always consult a registered healthcare professional before using this medication.
Composition
Each milliliter (ml) of Oryza Mouthwash contains 1.5 mg of Benzydamine Hydrochloride (w/v).
Pharmacology
Benzydamine Hydrochloride is a Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug (NSAID) known for its analgesic and local anesthetic properties. The pharmacological profile of Benzydamine Mouthwash is well established. Since Benzydamine is minimally absorbed into the bloodstream, it provides high localized concentrations at the injury site in the mouth or throat, ensuring effective relief from oropharyngeal pain while minimizing systemic side effects.
While Benzydamine functions as an NSAID, it operates through a unique mechanism that sets it apart from traditional NSAIDs. It exhibits both analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects by inhibiting pro-inflammatory cytokines and decreasing vascular permeability. Additionally, its local anesthetic properties offer immediate pain relief.
Dosage & Administration
For optimal results, rinse or gargle with 15 ml of Benzydamine Mouthwash every 1.5 to 3 hours as needed, maintaining the rinse for 20 to 30 seconds. If you experience stinging, the mouthwash can be diluted with an equal volume of water.
Pediatric Use: Not recommended for children under 12 years of age.
Always consult a registered healthcare professional before using this medication.
Contraindications
Individuals who are allergic or hypersensitive to Benzydamine or any component of the mouthwash should avoid its use. Avoid contact with the eyes. In case of accidental contact, rinse eyes immediately with cold water.
Side Effects
While side effects from Oryza Mouthwash are generally mild and not everyone experiences them, they can include:
- Severe allergic reactions, potentially resulting in a rash, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face, mouth, lips, or eyelids. If swelling impacts breathing or swallowing, seek immediate medical attention.
- Itchy rash, potentially presenting with pale, raised areas of skin and red edges (urticaria).
- Numbness in the mouth.
- Stinging sensation; if stinging occurs, diluting the mouthwash with water may help alleviate this effect.
Pregnancy & Lactation
The safety of Benzydamine during pregnancy has not been conclusively established. A careful risk-benefit analysis should be conducted before using this medication in pregnant patients.
