Indications
Nebivolol & Hydrochlorothiazide combination is recommended for managing essential hypertension.
Pharmacology
The blend of Nebivolol and Hydrochlorothiazide produces an augmented antihypertensive effect, surpassing the efficacy of either component alone. This combination exhibits mild vasodilatory properties, leading to a reduction in heart rate and blood pressure among hypertensive individuals. Hydrochlorothiazide impacts renal tubular mechanisms, enhancing the excretion of sodium and chloride, consequently reducing plasma volume. Moreover, it stimulates plasma renin activity and aldosterone secretion.
Dosage & Administration
Administer once daily, preferably at a consistent time daily. Not suitable for pediatric use.
Use medication as advised by healthcare professionals.
Interaction
Nebivolol:
- Interaction potential with Class I & III Antiarrhythmics, Calcium channel blockers (Verapamil/Diltiazem), centrally-acting antihypertensives, anaesthetics, antipsychotics, antidepressants, and NSAIDs.
Hydrochlorothiazide:
- Interaction potential with drugs affecting potassium & calcium levels, and NSAIDs.
Concurrent administration with certain medications may heighten the hypotensive effect, potentially causing postural hypotension.
Contraindications
Avoid in cases of hypersensitivity to the active substances, liver function impairment, severe renal insufficiency (Creatinine clearance < 30 ml/min.), bradycardia, and hypotension.
Side Effects
Nebivolol: Headache, dizziness, tiredness, diarrhea, constipation, nausea, etc.
Hydrochlorothiazide: Vertigo, itchiness, rash, increased sensitivity of skin to sunlight, etc.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Not recommended during pregnancy or lactation.
Precautions & Warnings
Nebivolol: Avoid in untreated Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) & bradycardia. Exercise caution in patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Diseases (COPD).
Hydrochlorothiazide: Monitor renal function, as thiazides may exacerbate azotemia. Watch for fluid or electrolyte imbalances.
Overdose Effects
Data on overdosage are unavailable. Overdosing with Hydrochlorothiazide may lead to electrolyte depletion and dehydration due to excessive diuresis.
Therapeutic Class
Combined antihypertensive preparations.
Storage Conditions
Store below 30°C, protected from light & moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
