Indications
Mucosol is prescribed for:
- Productive cough
- Acute and chronic respiratory inflammatory conditions with thick mucus, including bronchitis
- Inflammation of the rhinopharyngeal tract (e.g., laryngitis, pharyngitis, sinusitis, and rhinitis) associated with thick mucus
- Asthmatic bronchitis and bronchial asthma with heavy mucus production
- Bronchiectasis
- Chronic pneumonia
Pharmacology
Mucosol contains Ambroxol, a more effective bronchosecretolytic agent compared to its precursor bromhexine. Ambroxol enhances mucus hydration, facilitating its expulsion and alleviating breathing difficulties. It supports surfactant production, reducing alveolar surface tension, and has anti-inflammatory effects by inhibiting cytokine and arachidonic acid metabolite production. In patients with COPD, it improves airway openness.
