Indications
Moxifloxacin and Dexamethasone eye drops are prescribed for treating bacterial eye infections caused by susceptible microorganisms. They are also used to prevent post-surgical inflammation and bacterial infections following eye surgery.
Always follow the advice of a registered healthcare provider.
Composition
Each ml of the eye drop contains:
- Moxifloxacin Hydrochloride BP (equivalent to Moxifloxacin 5 mg)
- Dexamethasone Sodium Phosphate USP (equivalent to Dexamethasone Phosphate 1 mg)
Pharmacology
Moxifloxacin is a potent, broad-spectrum, 4th-generation fluoroquinolone antibiotic. It works by inhibiting the enzymes topoisomerase II (DNA gyrase) and topoisomerase IV, both of which are critical for bacterial DNA replication, transcription, and repair. These enzymes also help separate DNA during bacterial cell division.
Dexamethasone is a highly effective corticosteroid due to its unique structure, including a methyl group at the 16-alpha position and a fluorine atom at the 9-alpha position. It has strong anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, and anti-proliferative properties. Dexamethasone works by inhibiting phospholipase A2, the key enzyme in prostaglandin synthesis, and reduces neutrophil infiltration to inflammation sites.
