Description
Indications for Use
- Topical treatment for inflamed dermatoses with coexisting infection, such as intertrigo and infected eczema.
- Effective for various forms of eczema and dermatitis, including atopic eczema, irritant contact eczema, allergic contact eczema, and seborrheic eczema, including cases associated with acne.
- Also indicated for intertriginous eczema, including perianal and genital dermatitis.
- Miconazole targets dermatophytes and pathogenic yeasts (e.g., Candida spp.), as well as several gram-positive bacteria, such as Streptococcus and Staphylococcus.
Use only as directed by a healthcare professional.
Pharmacology
- Miconazole is a broad-spectrum azole antifungal that works by disrupting ergosterol synthesis in fungal cell membranes, causing cell death. It is effective against superficial candidiasis, dermatophytosis, pityriasis versicolor, seborrheic dermatitis, and other skin infections. It also targets Aspergillus spp., Cryptococcus neoformans, Pseudallescheria boydii, and certain gram-positive bacteria like Staphylococci and Streptococci.
- Hydrocortisone is a synthetic glucocorticoid known for its anti-inflammatory and anti-pruritic properties. It reduces skin inflammation by inhibiting the release of chemicals responsible for causing irritation and redness. When applied topically, hydrocortisone is absorbed into the skin to help alleviate swelling and discomfort.
Dosage & Administration
- Apply a thin layer of the cream to the affected area 2 to 4 times daily for 1 to 2 weeks. Gently rub the cream into the skin until fully absorbed.
- Continue treatment for at least one week after the symptoms disappear to ensure complete resolution of the infection.
- The dosage is the same for both adults and children.
Always follow the advice of a registered healthcare professional.
Drug Interactions
- Amphotericin B may antagonize the activity of Miconazole, reducing its effectiveness.
