Indications
This cream effectively treats moderate to severe melasma of the face, with strict sun avoidance advised during treatment. Use sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher.
Pharmacology
Combining Fluocinolone Acetonide, Hydroquinone, and Tretinoin, this cream targets melasma. While its exact mechanism is unknown, Fluocinolone Acetonide acts as an anti-inflammatory, Hydroquinone interrupts melanin synthesis, and Tretinoin functions as a keratolytic agent.
Dosage & Administration
Apply nightly, 30 minutes before bedtime, after gentle cleansing. Cover hyperpigmented areas and a ½ inch of surrounding skin. During the day, use sunscreen and protective clothing. Moisturizers and cosmetics are permitted.
Pediatric Use
Safety and efficacy in pediatric patients haven’t been established.
Interaction
Avoid abrasive cleansers, cosmetics with drying effects, and medications with photosensitizing effects.
Contraindications
This cream is contraindicated in individuals with hypersensitivity to its components.
Side Effects
Possible reactions include mild to moderate skin irritation, redness, peeling, burning, dryness, or itching. Severe allergic reactions are rare.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category C. Caution is advised, especially due to the teratogen, tretinoin. Corticosteroids may appear in breast milk; exercise caution during lactation.
Precautions & Warnings
Expect mild to moderate irritation. Discontinue if hypersensitivity occurs. Corticosteroids may lead to systemic effects; monitor for signs of HPA axis suppression.
