Pharmacology
Maxiflox contains Moxifloxacin, a 4th-generation fluoroquinolone antibiotic that offers broad-spectrum coverage against a wide array of bacterial pathogens, including gram-positive, gram-negative, anaerobic, and atypical bacteria like Mycoplasma pneumoniae. Moxifloxacin works by inhibiting essential bacterial enzymes, topoisomerase II and topoisomerase IV, which are involved in DNA replication, transcription, and repair.
Dosage & Administration
For optimal treatment, Maxiflox dosage varies based on the infection:
- Acute bacterial sinusitis: 400 mg once daily for 7-10 days
- Acute bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis: 400 mg once daily for 5-10 days
- Community-acquired pneumonia: 400 mg once daily for 7-14 days
- Uncomplicated skin infections: 400 mg once daily for 7 days
- Complicated skin infections: 400 mg once daily for 7-21 days
- Complicated intra-abdominal infections: 400 mg once daily for 5-14 days
- Pelvic inflammatory disease: 400 mg once daily for 14 days

Interaction
- Decreased absorption: Maxiflox’s absorption is reduced when taken with antacids, sucralfate, multivitamins, and multivalent cations like iron or zinc.
- Drug interactions: The use of Maxiflox alongside NSAIDs may increase the risk of seizures, while it can enhance bleeding risk when used with warfarin. Avoid combining Maxiflox with these medications.
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Moxifloxacin or any other quinolone antibiotics.
- Contraindicated in patients with a prolonged QT interval, uncorrected hypokalemia, or those receiving antiarrhythmic agents (Class IA or III).
