Indications
Lubric Gel serves as a surgical aid (medical device) during procedures involving the anterior chamber of the eye, such as lens extraction and intraocular lens insertion. This gel is designed to preserve the anterior chamber’s depth throughout the surgical process, allowing for enhanced precision without risking damage to the corneal endothelium or surrounding intraocular tissues.
Usage should follow the guidance of a registered healthcare professional.
Pharmacology
Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose is a non-pyrogenic viscoelastic solution that occupies space and protects ocular tissues. During anterior segment surgeries, it facilitates safer manipulation with minimal trauma to ocular structures like the corneal endothelium by ensuring a consistently deep chamber. Its viscoelastic characteristics help displace the vitreous face, effectively preventing the occurrence of a postoperative flat chamber.
Dosage & Administration
Each pre-filled syringe is intended for single intraocular use only. The volume injected into the anterior chamber should be adjusted based on the amount of aqueous humor present and the anatomical areas that require protection.
Consult a registered healthcare professional for appropriate usage.
Interactions
No specific drug interactions have been identified with Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose.
Contraindications
Currently, there are no known contraindications associated with the recommended use of Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose.
Side Effects
Lubric Gel is generally well tolerated after injection into the eye. Some cases may experience a temporary rise in intraocular pressure post-surgery. Rarely, patients may report postoperative inflammatory reactions (such as iritis and hypopyon), corneal edema, or corneal decompensation with viscoelastic agents.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy: Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose has not been linked to birth defects or other complications in humans.
Lactation: No adverse effects have been reported in breastfeeding infants.
Precautions & Warnings
Precautions are generally those typical of ophthalmic surgical procedures. There may be a temporary increase in intraocular pressure following surgery, particularly in patients with pre-existing glaucoma. As a safety measure, Lubric Gel should be thoroughly removed from the anterior chamber at the conclusion of the surgery. If postoperative intraocular pressure exceeds expected levels, appropriate treatment should be initiated.
Warning:
- For intraocular use only.
- For single use only.
Overdose Effects
Mechanical blockage of drainage at the trabecular level may result in a temporary increase in intraocular pressure post-surgery.
Therapeutic Class
Ophthalmic agents for dry eyes.
Storage Conditions
Store in a cool, dry place away from light. Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children.
