Indications
Relief from Flatulence and Abdominal Discomfort: Lefoam serves as a highly effective antiflatulent, providing relief from painful symptoms associated with excessive gas in the digestive system. This condition often arises from swallowing air or consuming certain foods that can cause discomfort. Lefoam drops are particularly beneficial for infants, acting in both the stomach and intestines to facilitate the release of gas, allowing it to be expelled more easily through belching or passing flatus.
Preparation for Bowel Procedures: Incorporating Lefoam into a polyethylene glycol bowel preparation enhances comfort and alleviates symptoms prior to medical examinations, particularly in cases of accidental ingestion of foaming detergents.
Management of Poisoning: Lefoam is also used as an anecdotal antifoaming agent for the management of accidental ingestion of foaming detergents.
Always consult a registered physician before using medication.
Pharmacology
Simethicone, the active ingredient in Lefoam, acts as an antiflatulent to alleviate symptoms commonly associated with gas, including bloating, pressure, and a feeling of fullness in the upper gastrointestinal tract. Its clinical application is rooted in its antifoaming properties, which effectively reduce flatulence by dispersing and preventing the formation of gas pockets encased in mucus within the GI tract.
By acting in the stomach and intestines, Simethicone modifies the surface tension of gas bubbles, allowing them to merge, which facilitates easier elimination of gas through belching or flatus. Additionally, Simethicone aids in reducing postoperative gas discomfort and can be administered before gastroscopy to improve visualization, as well as prior to intestinal radiography to minimize gas shadows.
Dosage & Administration
Lefoam should be taken after meals and at bedtime. It can also be mixed with an infant’s feed. Remember to shake the bottle well before each use.

Interactions
Lefoam does not appear to affect the efficacy of other medications. However, the defoaming action of Lefoam may be diminished by antacids like Aluminum Hydroxide and Magnesium Carbonate, which can absorb silicone.
Side Effects
Lefoam is generally considered physiologically inert, and no adverse effects have been reported following oral ingestion.
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Pregnant Women: No data suggests any harmful effects associated with the use of Lefoam during pregnancy.
- Lactating Mothers: There is no evidence to indicate that Simethicone is excreted in breast milk, and it is unlikely to do so.
Precautions & Warnings
Do not exceed 12 doses per day unless advised and supervised by a physician.
