Indications
Koloride is formulated with essential electrolytes that are often depleted during conditions such as diarrhea, vomiting, excessive sweating, and more. This saline solution is specifically indicated for replenishing lost fluids and restoring electrolyte balance in cases like cholera, diarrhea, and vomiting.
Composition
Koloride is a sterile saline solution composed of Sodium Chloride, Potassium Chloride, and Sodium Acetate. Each 100 ml of solution contains:
- Sodium Chloride BP 0.5 g
- Potassium Chloride BP 0.1 g
- Sodium Acetate BP 0.393 g
Per litre, the solution includes Sodium 134 mmol, Potassium 13 mmol, Chloride 99 mmol, and Acetate 48 mmol.
Dosage
The dosage and infusion rate of Cholera Saline should be tailored to the patient’s individual needs based on age, weight, and overall health. The prescribing physician will determine the appropriate dosage.

Administration
Procedure for administering Koloride:
- Inspect the infusion set and solution before use.
- Carefully remove the protective cover of the Eurohead.
- Gently hold the Eurohead, avoiding the bag.
- Fully open the flow regulator and grip the top white area of the giving set, avoiding the membrane venting zone.
- Insert the administration set spike into the Eurohead and securely connect the administration set to the needle.
- Allow fluid to flow to the needle tip, then close the regulator.
- Remove the needle’s protective cover.
- Identify the venipuncture site, disinfect it with an antiseptic solution, and insert the needle.
- Secure the puncture site with tape.
- Adjust the drip rate and begin the infusion.

Side Effects
Potential side effects may include:
- Severe burning, pain, or swelling around the IV site
- Warmth, redness, or bleeding at the IV site
- Fever or persistent cough
Precautions & Warnings
As Koloride contains multiple electrolytes, it should be administered cautiously in patients who may experience harmful effects from electrolyte imbalances. This includes patients who are pregnant, those with kidney issues, heart failure, pulmonary congestion, head trauma, or individuals taking potassium-sparing diuretics.
