Indications
Ketomar eye drops are designed to alleviate the symptoms associated with allergic conjunctivitis. This includes relief from itchy, watery, red, and swollen eyes and eyelids. It is effective for various conditions such as vernal kerato-conjunctivitis, vernal keratitis, blepharitis, blepharo-conjunctivitis, and giant papillary conjunctivitis.
Pharmacology
The active ingredient, Ketotifen, is a powerful anti-allergic agent known for its strong and prolonged non-competitive blockade of histamine (H1) receptors. Ketotifen effectively inhibits the release of key mediators—such as histamine, leukotrienes, and prostaglandins—by the cells responsible for type I allergic reactions. Additionally, it stabilizes mast cells and reduces the chemotactic activation and degranulation of eosinophils.
Dosage & Administration
- Adults and Children (3 years and older): Instill 1 drop in the affected eye(s) twice daily, spaced 8-12 hours apart, not exceeding two applications per day.

Interactions
When using Ketomar eye drops alongside other ocular medications, ensure a minimum interval of 5 minutes between the applications of the two products.
Contraindications

Pregnancy & Lactation
Currently, there is limited data on the use of Ketotifen eye drops during pregnancy. Systemic absorption from ocular application is significantly lower than from oral use. Caution is advised when prescribing to pregnant women. While animal studies indicate that Ketotifen can be excreted in breast milk after oral administration, topical use is unlikely to produce detectable amounts in human milk. Ketomar 0.25% eye drops can generally be used during breastfeeding.
Precautions & Warnings
Ketomar 0.025% eye drops contain benzalkonium chloride as a preservative, which may accumulate in soft contact lenses. Therefore, lenses should be removed before applying the drops and can be reinserted no sooner than 15 minutes after use.
Overdose Effects
There have been no reported cases of overdose. Ingesting the contents of a 5 ml bottle would yield approximately 1.25 mg of Ketotifen, which represents 60% of the recommended oral daily dose for a 3-year-old child. Clinical evidence shows that no severe signs or symptoms occur after oral ingestion of up to 20 mg of Ketomar.

Storage Conditions
Store in a cool, dry place, away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children. Avoid touching the dropper tip to any surface to prevent contamination. Discard any remaining solution 30 days after first opening.
