Indications

Fona cream or gel effectively treats acne vulgaris through topical application.

Pharmacology

Adapalene, acting on retinoid receptors in facial, back, and chest skin, modulates cellular differentiation, keratinization, and inflammation. Its specific binding with retinoic acid nuclear receptors normalizes follicular epithelial cell differentiation, reducing microcomedone formation.

Dosage

• Adapalene 0.1%: Apply once daily at night to affected areas.
• Adapalene 0.3%: Apply once daily in the evening to the entire face and affected skin areas.

Administration

Apply a thin film of gel or cream to affected areas, covering lightly.

Interaction

Exercise caution with concomitant use of potentially irritating topical products. Avoid combining with sulfur, resorcinol, or salicylic acid preparations unless effects have subsided.

Contraindications

Avoid Adapalene if hypersensitive to it or any of its components.

Side Effects

Common side effects include erythema, scaling, dryness, pruritus, and burning sensation, typically diminishing with continued use.

Use during pregnancy only if benefits outweigh risks; caution advised during breastfeeding.

Precautions & Warnings

Avoid application on cuts, abrasions, eczematous, or sunburned skin.
