Product Description
Ecoren T Cream is a broad-spectrum antifungal with potent anti-inflammatory, anti-pruritic (anti-itch), and anti-allergic properties. It contains Econazole Nitrate, a powerful antifungal agent, and Triamcinolone Acetonide, a corticosteroid that enhances its antimicrobial action and helps reduce inflammation. This combination provides excellent results in treating mixed infections involving both fungi and bacteria, such as eczema, recurrent inflammations, and bacterial infections in skin folds.
Econazole Nitrate effectively targets a wide range of dermatomycoses caused by various pathogens, including:
- Dermatophytes (Trichophyton, Epidermophyton, Microsporum)
- Yeasts (Candida, Cryptococcus, Rhodotorula)
- Molds (Aspergillus, Blastomycosis dermatitidis)
- Malassezia Furfur and Nocardia minutissima
It also has antibacterial activity against gram-positive bacteria, including Streptococcus pyogenes and Staphylococcus aureus. Additionally, Triamcinolone Acetonide helps suppress inflammation by inhibiting both early and later stages of the inflammatory process.
Pharmacological Properties
Econazole Nitrate is minimally absorbed through the skin (<0.1%), so no significant drug levels are detected in the bloodstream. In contrast, Triamcinolone Acetonide is well-absorbed when applied topically.
Dosage and Administration
- Adults: Apply Ecoren T Cream sparingly to the affected area, up to twice daily, preferably in the morning and evening. Avoid using occlusive dressings or applying to large body areas. Treatment duration should not exceed 2 weeks. Once the symptoms improve, continue treatment with a single-agent Econazole cream, if necessary.
- Pediatric Use: Children are more susceptible to side effects from topical corticosteroids, particularly in relation to the HPA axis suppression and Cushing’s syndrome. Use with caution and for short durations.
Consult a healthcare provider for proper dosage and treatment.
Drug Interactions
- Econazole may interact with oral anticoagulants (e.g., warfarin), metabolized by CYP3A4/2C9 enzymes.
- Triamcinolone can interfere with blood glucose levels, and its effects may be antagonized by certain diabetic medications. It may also interact with other drugs such as NSAIDs, beta-blockers, and potassium-depleting diuretics.
Contraindications
Do not use Ecoren T Cream if you are hypersensitive to any of its ingredients or if you have any of the following conditions:
- Viral skin infections (e.g., herpes simplex, chickenpox)
- Bacterial or fungal skin infections
- Tuberculosis or rosacea-like dermatitis
Side Effects
Possible side effects include:
- Mild, transient irritation (itching or redness) immediately after application.
- Long-term use of corticosteroids can lead to skin thinning, especially in children or when using occlusive dressings.
- Systemic absorption of corticosteroids may cause adrenal suppression.
Pregnancy and Lactation
- Pregnancy: Triamcinolone Acetonide may cross the placenta and could affect fetal development. Topical steroids should only be used during pregnancy if necessary, and in the smallest possible amounts for the shortest duration.
- Lactation: Both Econazole and Triamcinolone may be excreted in breast milk in small quantities. It is advised to avoid using this cream during breastfeeding or temporarily discontinue breastfeeding during treatment.
Precautions and Warnings
- External use only. Avoid contact with the eyes or mucous membranes.
- Discontinue use immediately if you experience any signs of hypersensitivity or skin irritation.
- Prolonged use of topical corticosteroids can lead to systemic effects, including adrenal suppression, skin thinning, and increased risk of infections.
- Children: Use with caution in children, limiting treatment to less than 2 weeks and avoiding large areas of the skin.
- Visual disturbances may occur with systemic and topical corticosteroid use. Consult an ophthalmologist if symptoms like blurred vision persist.
Overdose Effects
This cream is for cutaneous application only. In case of accidental ingestion or eye exposure, wash with water and seek medical attention if necessary.
