Indications
Dexotix M is effective in treating chest congestion, cough, and sore throat.
Use only as prescribed by a registered healthcare professional.
Composition
Each 5 ml dose of Dexotix M syrup contains:
- Guaifenesin BP 200 mg
- Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide BP 15 mg
- Menthol USP 15 mg
Pharmacology
- Guaifenesin is an expectorant that works by loosening mucus in the chest and throat, facilitating easier expulsion through coughing.
- Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide is a cough suppressant that targets the brain’s cough reflex pathways to reduce coughing.
- Menthol is a naturally derived or synthetically made compound that possesses local anesthetic and counter-irritant properties. It helps soothe throat irritation and discomfort.
Dosage & Administration
- Adults (12 years and older): Take 2 teaspoonfuls (10 ml) of syrup every 6 hours.
- Maximum dose: 8 teaspoonfuls (40 ml) per day.
- Children under 12 years: Not recommended.

Interactions
Dexotix M may interact with the following medications:
- Acetaminophen or hydrocodone
- Diphenhydramine
- Escitalopram
- Codeine
- Alprazolam
- Ondansetron

Contraindications
Avoid use if you are currently taking or have recently stopped taking a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) within the last two weeks. If unsure whether your medication contains an MAOI, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
Side Effects
Common side effects may include dizziness, drowsiness, gastrointestinal discomfort, and feelings of nervousness, restlessness, anxiety, or irritability.
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Pregnancy: Both Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide and Guaifenesin are classified as Category C by the FDA. This means they should only be used during pregnancy if the benefits outweigh the risks.
- Lactation: There are no available data on the excretion of these ingredients in breast milk. Consider discontinuing breastfeeding while using this product.
- Menthol: There is no data on the safety of Menthol during pregnancy. Its use should be cautious until more information is available.
Precautions & Warnings
Consult with a healthcare provider before using Dexotix M if you have:
- Asthma or chronic lung disease
- Shortness of breath
- A persistent or chronic cough
- If you are taking any depression medication, especially MAO inhibitors.
Overdose Effects
- Guaifenesin: Rarely toxic in overdose. Severe cases may require treatment to prevent further absorption, such as gastric emptying.
- Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide: Overdose may cause excitement, confusion, or respiratory depression. Extremely high doses can lead to psychosis.
- Menthol: Overuse can result in abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, and rapid breathing.
