Pharmacology
Hyoscine Hydrobromide, also known as scopolamine, belongs to the class of antimuscarinic (anticholinergic) medications. It works by blocking signals from the vestibular system that trigger nausea and vomiting in the brain’s vomiting center, effectively preventing motion sickness.
Dosage
- Adults & Children over 13 years: Take 2 tablets (up to a maximum of 4 tablets in 24 hours).
- Children aged 7-12 years: Take 1-2 tablets (maximum 2 tablets in 24 hours).
- Children aged 4-7 years: Take 1 tablet (maximum 2 tablets in 24 hours).
- Children aged 3-4 years: Take half a tablet (maximum 1 tablet in 24 hours).
- Children under 3 years: Not recommended, or use as directed by a healthcare professional.

Administration
For optimal effectiveness, take Coolgut tablets 30 minutes prior to your journey.

Drug Interactions
- May enhance sedative effects when combined with alcohol or other central nervous system depressants.
- Effectiveness may be reduced when used with acetylcholinesterase inhibitors (e.g., donepezil, galantamine, rivastigmine, tacrine).
Contraindications
Coolgut should not be used by individuals with glaucoma or blindness.
Side Effects
Potential side effects include dry mouth, dizziness, blurred vision, and difficulty urinating.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Coolgut is not recommended for use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Precautions & Warnings
- May cause drowsiness. If affected, do not drive or operate machinery.
- The sedative effects may be intensified when taken with phenothiazines, tricyclic antidepressants, or alcohol.
- The absorption of Hyoscine Hydrobromide may be reduced by aluminum hydroxide-based preparations.
