Pharmacology
Ciclopirox, the active ingredient in Candirox Nail Lacquer, is a synthetic antifungal agent. This clear, colorless to lightly yellow solution is applied to the fingernails, toenails, and adjacent skin. Unlike azole-based antifungal drugs, the exact action mechanism of Ciclopirox is not fully understood. However, it’s believed to inhibit certain fungal enzymes, such as catalase and peroxidase, thereby disrupting various cellular metabolic processes within the fungus.
Dosage & Administration
- Prior to treatment, use nail clippers or files to remove any loose nail material. Patients with diabetes or numbness in fingers or toes should consult a healthcare provider before trimming nails or removing nail material.
- Apply Candirox Nail Lacquer daily to the entire nail plate (preferably at bedtime or eight hours before washing) using the provided applicator brush. If possible, also apply it to the underside of the nail and surrounding skin. Allow about 30 seconds to dry before wearing socks or stockings.
- Apply a new coat daily over the previous application.
- Once a week, remove Candirox Nail Lacquer with an alcohol pad or nail polish remover. Use scissors, clippers, or a nail file to remove as much damaged nail as possible.
- Repeat steps 2–4 consistently for 6 to 48 weeks, as directed.

Contraindications
Candirox Nail Lacquer should not be used by individuals with a known hypersensitivity to any of its ingredients.
Side Effects
Possible side effects include redness or burning at the application site and minor changes in nail shape or color. Serious allergic reactions to Candirox are rare.

Candirox is classified as Pregnancy Category B. While no comprehensive studies exist on topical ciclopirox in pregnant women, it should only be used during pregnancy if the potential benefits outweigh the risks to the fetus.
