Indications
Our product is intended for both the treatment and prevention of various conditions including osteoporosis, osteomalacia, tetany, hypoparathyroidism, and disorders of osteogenesis. Additionally, it serves as a supplement for individuals with inadequate calcium intake during childhood, as well as those experiencing conditions such as rickets, pregnancy, lactation, and in elderly patients. Other applications include its use as a phosphate binder in chronic renal failure and as a supportive measure in pancreatitis.
Composition
Each tablet of our formulation contains Calcium Carbonate USP 1250 mg sourced from coral, equivalent to 500 mg of elemental Calcium, and Vitamin D USP 200 IU. For our DX variant, each tablet contains Calcium Carbonate USP 1500 mg from coral, equivalent to 600 mg of elemental Calcium, and Vitamin D USP 400 IU. Furthermore, our effervescent tablet offers Calcium Carbonate (Coral source) USP 1500 mg equivalent to 600 mg of elemental Calcium and Vitamin D3 400 IU as Cholecalciferol USP.
Pharmacology
Calcium plays a crucial role in various bodily functions, with clinical evidence supporting its effectiveness in preventing and treating osteoporosis and associated fractures. Vitamin D is essential for calcium absorption and bone health, stimulating bone formation and growth. Our formulation, sourced from coral calcium, ensures optimal absorption due to its similarity in chemical structure to human bone. Vitamin D3 aids in calcium absorption from the gastrointestinal tract, maintaining calcium balance in the body.
Dosage & Administration
The recommended dosage is one tablet taken once or twice daily with plenty of water, or as directed by a physician. Consumption with a full stomach enhances absorption. Effervescent tablets should be dissolved in a glass of water before oral consumption, also preferably with a full stomach for optimal absorption.
Interaction
Various medications may interact with our formulation, impacting calcium absorption and levels in the body. Thiazide diuretics, for example, reduce urinary excretion of calcium, necessitating regular monitoring of serum calcium levels. Concomitant use with systemic corticosteroids may require adjustments in calcium tablet dosage. It’s crucial to avoid simultaneous intake with substances that hinder calcium absorption, such as cholestyramine or certain laxatives.
Contraindications
Our product is contraindicated in cases of hypercalcemia, hyperparathyroidism, hypercalciuria, nephrolithiasis, hypersensitivity to its components, severe renal insufficiency, and during concomitant digoxin therapy due to the need for careful monitoring of serum calcium levels.
Side Effects
Oral administration of calcium carbonate may lead to gastrointestinal irritation and constipation. Rarely, hypercalcemia may occur, particularly in patients with chronic renal failure. Other potential side effects include allergic reactions, irregular heartbeats, nausea, vomiting, decreased appetite, dry mouth, and drowsiness. Occasional skin rash has been reported with vitamin D supplements.
Pregnancy & Lactation
While our product can be used during pregnancy and lactation to address calcium and vitamin D deficiencies, caution is advised to avoid overdoses, as permanent hypercalcemia may adversely affect fetal development. Monitoring of calcium and vitamin D levels is recommended.
Precautions & Warnings
Long-term treatment requires monitoring of serum calcium levels and renal function, especially in elderly patients and those on concomitant medication such as cardiac glycosides or diuretics. Special caution is advised in patients with impaired renal function or sarcoidosis. Close monitoring of serum calcium levels and urinary calcium excretion is essential.
Overdose Effects
Overdose may lead to hypervitaminosis D and hypercalcemia, with symptoms ranging from gastrointestinal disturbances to severe cardiac arrhythmias. Treatment involves discontinuation of calcium intake and supportive measures to manage symptoms.
Therapeutic Class
Our product belongs to the therapeutic class of specific mineral and vitamin combined preparations.
Storage Conditions
Store our product below 30°C, protected from light and moisture, and out of reach of children.
