Indications
Bisoprolol plus Hydrochlorothiazide is prescribed for managing hypertension.
Pharmacology
This combination leverages the individual and synergistic effects of Bisoprolol Fumarate and Hydrochlorothiazide for effective hypertension treatment. The addition of Hydrochlorothiazide at 6.25 mg enhances the antihypertensive action of Bisoprolol. Notably, this combination results in a lower incidence of hypokalemia compared to higher doses of Hydrochlorothiazide alone. Bisoprolol acts as a selective beta-1 blocker, while Hydrochlorothiazide is a diuretic that promotes sodium and chloride excretion by affecting renal tubular functions.
Dosage & Administration
Adults: Initiate treatment with one tablet of 2.5/6.25 mg once daily. Gradually titrate the dosage every 14 days, up to a maximum of 20/12.5 mg once daily, based on individual response.
Children: Safety and efficacy in those under 18 have not been established.
Renal/Hepatic Impairment: Start with 5 mg and adjust cautiously.
Elderly: Generally, no dosage adjustment is necessary unless significant renal or hepatic issues are present.
Consult a registered physician before use.
