Indications
Adapalene & Benzoyl Peroxide Gel is specifically formulated for the topical management of acne vulgaris in individuals aged 12 and older.
Note: Always consult a registered healthcare professional before using this medication.
Pharmacology
This gel combines Adapalene and Benzoyl Peroxide for effective acne treatment. Adapalene works by binding to specific retinoic acid nuclear receptors, promoting proper cellular differentiation, keratinization, and mitigating inflammatory processes. This action helps normalize the differentiation of follicular epithelial cells, reducing the formation of microcomedones. Meanwhile, Benzoyl Peroxide acts as an oxidizing agent, providing bactericidal and keratolytic benefits.
Dosage & Administration
For optimal results, apply a thin layer of Adapalene & Benzoyl Peroxide Gel to the affected areas of the face and/or trunk once daily after cleansing. Use a pea-sized amount for each targeted area, such as the forehead, chin, and each cheek. Ensure to avoid contact with the eyes, lips, and mucous membranes. This gel is strictly for topical application and should not be used orally, ophthalmically, or intravaginally.
Pediatric Use: The safety and effectiveness of Adapalene & Benzoyl Peroxide Gel in children under 12 have not been established.
Note: Always consult a registered healthcare professional before using this medication.
Interaction
Caution is advised when using this gel alongside other topical acne treatments, as there may be a cumulative irritant effect, particularly with peeling, desquamating, or abrasive products. No formal drug interaction studies have been conducted.
Contraindications
This medication should not be used by individuals with a known hypersensitivity to any of its components.
Side Effects
Potential side effects include erythema, scaling, dryness, and sensations of stinging or burning. The most commonly reported adverse effects are dry skin, contact dermatitis, burning at the application site, irritation, and general skin discomfort.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Currently, there are no well-controlled studies in pregnant women using Adapalene and Benzoyl Peroxide. Animal reproduction studies have not been conducted on this combination. As such, this medication should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefits outweigh the risks to the fetus. It remains unclear whether Adapalene or Benzoyl Peroxide is excreted in human breast milk; therefore, caution is advised for nursing mothers.
