Indications
Candirox Cream is designed for the topical treatment of various dermal infections, including Tinea pedis, Tinea cruris, and Tinea corporis, caused by Trichophyton rubrum, Trichophyton mentagrophytes, Epidermophyton floccosum, and Microsporum canis. It is also effective against candidiasis (moniliasis) caused by Candida albicans, and Tinea (pityriasis) versicolor due to Malassezia furfur. Additionally, Candirox Cream shows effectiveness against certain Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria. Thanks to its anti-inflammatory properties, Candirox is effective as a standalone treatment for mild to moderate inflammatory fungal infections.
Always use medication as directed by a registered healthcare professional.
Pharmacology
Ciclopirox Olamine, a synthetic broad-spectrum antifungal agent, effectively inhibits the growth of pathogenic dermatophytes, yeasts, and Malassezia furfur. It exhibits in vitro fungicidal activity against strains of Trichophyton rubrum, Trichophyton mentagrophytes, Epidermophyton floccosum, Microsporum canis, and Candida albicans. The mechanism of action for Ciclopirox Olamine is primarily studied with Candida albicans, where it is believed to cause growth inhibition or cell death by depleting essential substrates and ions through blockage of their uptake from the environment. Beyond its antifungal properties, Ciclopirox also possesses antibacterial activity against various Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. The anti-inflammatory effects of Ciclopirox have been observed in human polymorphonuclear cells, where it inhibits the production of prostaglandins and leukotrienes. Moreover, it can reduce inflammation by inhibiting the formation of 5-lipoxygenase and cyclooxygenase.
Dosage & Administration
For optimal results, Ciclopirox Cream should be gently massaged onto the affected and surrounding skin areas twice daily for a duration of four weeks. Most patients experience clinical improvement and relief from symptoms such as itching within the first week of treatment. If there is no clinical improvement after four weeks of using Ciclopirox Cream, the diagnosis should be reassessed. Patients with Tinea versicolor typically show clinical and mycological clearance after just two weeks of treatment.
