Pharmacology
Oxymetazoline Hydrochloride is an imidazoline derivative and sympathomimetic amine. It functions as a direct agonist at α-adrenoceptors while exhibiting no activity on β-adrenoceptors. As a topical agent for the nasal mucosa, it delivers rapid and prolonged vasoconstriction of the arterioles, which reduces blood flow and alleviates swelling of the mucosa. This mechanism enhances airflow and facilitates better drainage of the nasal sinuses.
