- Gas associated with acid reflux
- Pregnancy-related heartburn
- All forms of epigastric and retrosternal discomfort where gastric reflux is the root cause.
Pharmacology:
Progavi is a combination of two antacids (Calcium Carbonate and Sodium Bicarbonate) and an alginate (Sodium Alginate). This dual-action suspension works by:
- Neutralizing excess stomach acid to alleviate pain and discomfort.
- Creating a protective layer over stomach contents, soothing the burning sensation in the chest.
Its action is primarily physical, not reliant on absorption into the bloodstream. Upon ingestion, the product interacts with stomach acid to form a near-neutral pH alginic acid gel (raft) that shields the esophagus from acid reflux for up to 4 hours. In severe cases, the raft may be refluxed itself, offering further protection. Additionally, the raft can trap bile and pepsin, further protecting the esophagus.
Calcium Carbonate quickly neutralizes stomach acid for fast relief, enhanced by Sodium Bicarbonate’s neutralizing properties.
