Indications
Mirakof SR serves as a remedy for dry (non-productive) cough, commonly stemming from recent viral infections. It’s also beneficial for managing pre- and post-operative cough sedation in patients undergoing surgical procedures and bronchoscopy. Additionally, it addresses acute cough of various origins, including whooping cough and cough associated with acute lower respiratory tract infections like tracheitis, laryngitis, and bronchitis.
Pharmacology
Butamirate Citrate operates directly on the brain’s cough center to suppress cough reflex. Being safe and non-sedating, it lacks chemical or pharmacological relations to opium alkaloids. The rapid and complete absorption of Butamirate Citrate after oral administration leads to maximum concentration within 9 hours with sustained-release tablets. It’s highly protein-bound with a plasma elimination half-life of about 13 hours. The active metabolites of Butamirate Citrate also possess antitussive properties.
