Indications
Fona cream or gel is indicated for the topical treatment of acne vulgaris.
Pharmacology
Adapalene acts on retinoid receptors found in the skin of the face, back, and chest. It regulates cellular differentiation, keratinization, and inflammatory processes crucial in acne vulgaris pathology. By binding with specific retinoic acid nuclear receptors, it normalizes follicular epithelial cell differentiation, reducing microcomedone formation. Absorption through the skin is minimal.
Dosage
Adapalene 0.1%: Apply once daily at night-time to affected skin areas. Adapalene 0.3%: Apply once daily in the evening to the entire face and other affected areas.
Administration
Apply a thin film of gel or cream to affected skin areas, ensuring light coverage.
Interaction
Use caution with concomitant use of potentially irritating topical products. Avoid combining with sulfur, resorcinol, or salicylic acid preparations unless effects have subsided.
Contraindications
Avoid in individuals hypersensitive to Adapalene or its components.
Side Effects
Commonly experienced side effects include erythema, scaling, dryness, pruritus, and burning sensation, which typically diminish with continued use.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Use during pregnancy should be justified by potential benefits versus risks. Caution advised during lactation.
Precautions & Warnings
Avoid application on cuts, abrasions, eczematous, or sunburned skin.
