Indications:

Ticamet Inhaler is recommended for the routine treatment of asthma when a combination product (long-acting β2-agonist and inhaled corticosteroid) is deemed suitable. It’s beneficial for patients not adequately controlled with inhaled corticosteroids alone and those requiring both inhaled corticosteroid and long-acting β2-agonist for effective asthma management.

Pharmacology:

Ticamet combines Salmeterol Xinafoate, a selective long-acting beta-2 agonist, and Fluticasone Propionate, a corticosteroid primarily active in the lungs. While Salmeterol provides protection against symptoms, Fluticasone improves lung function and prevents asthma exacerbations. This formulation offers convenience to patients on combined therapy.

Dosage:

• Inhaler:
  • For adults and adolescents (12 years and older): 2 puffs twice daily with varying strengths depending on the severity.
  • For children (4-12 years): 2 puffs twice daily with a specified strength.
• Inhalation capsule (for asthma):
  • For adults and adolescents (12 years and older): Twice daily with strength determined by asthma severity.
  • For pediatric patients (4 to 11 years): Twice daily with specified strength.

Administration:

Correct Inhaler usage is crucial for optimal asthma management. Following the proper steps ensures effective delivery of medication to the lungs, reducing the risk of asthma attacks.

Interaction:

Caution is advised with β-blockers in asthma patients. While clinically significant interactions are unlikely with inhaled dosing, co-administration with strong CYP3A4 inhibitors may increase systemic exposure to Fluticasone Propionate.

Contraindications:

Ticamet Inhaler is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to its components and should not be used as the primary treatment for acute asthma episodes.

Side Effects:

Overdose Effects:

While human overdose data is limited, symptoms may include those associated with Salmeterol and Fluticasone Propionate. Prompt medical attention is necessary in case of overdose.
