Indications
Zedex DS is used to address zinc deficiency and conditions leading to zinc loss. Zinc deficiency can arise from poor dietary intake or malabsorption issues. Excessive zinc loss may occur due to trauma, burns, diarrhea, or conditions that cause protein loss. A zinc supplement is typically administered until clinical improvement is observed, but ongoing supplementation may be necessary in cases of severe malabsorption, metabolic disorders, or chronic zinc loss.
Pharmacology
Zinc sulfate monohydrate is a crucial trace element involved in numerous enzyme systems throughout the body. Essential for growth and overall health, zinc supports sexual development, adaptation to low-light conditions, taste and smell functions, insulin regulation, and immune defense mechanisms. Deficiency in zinc can result in weakened immune responses, delayed wound healing, reduced senses of taste and smell, compromised infection resistance, poor night vision, increased risk of abortion, hair loss, mental fatigue, skin disorders, and underdeveloped reproductive organs.
